The New Pogo Dare Section

Hello to all our loyal readers -- both of you. You may have noticed something new with the Funny Pages this week -- we added a new "Dares" section right below the features. That's because we ran the first Pogo Dare a few weeks back, and while some people did send in pictures of themselves (and we thank you for that), nobody actually followed the dare.

Looking back, I realize it's probably because it takes more than a week for most people to, say, drop by the Grand Canyon with an "I love Pogo" sign. So from now on, we're gonna leave the Pogo dares in their own section that won't rotate as often, so you'll have more time to finish them.

We're also going to make this next dare a little easier. I got the inspiration for our next dare this afternoon when, needing a break from a long day of instant-messaging my friends, I wandered outside the Pogo offices and passed by two girls walking a dog wearing tiny little doggy-shoes.

This, in my mind, is probably the biggest difference between dogs and cats. Dogs and cats have very different thought processes when it comes to wearing clothes:

Dog: Oh boy! Oh boy! Look! It's my master! Oh boy oh boy oh boy! Maybe he's got food? Is that food? Can I eat it? Oh boy oh boy! It's a SWEATER! WOW! I wonder if I can EAT the sweater... No, I can't eat it. Maybe I can PEE on it... no, I can't do that... oh boy oh boy! They're PUTTING IT ON ME! Wait a second... this is somewhat humili-- Am I going out?! Oh boy oh boy oh boy!

Cat: Put that sweater any closer to me and I'll claw your eyeballs out.

This pretty much reflected the attitude of the dog wearing shoes. He seemed to have moments of "This is so embarrassing," which were quickly replaced by, "Wow! Other dogs peed on this lamppost! I have GOT TO smell this!!"

So for this week's Pogo Dare, we're asking you to take a picture of your pet wearing a hat or baseball cap. I suppose this will be a bit of an advantage to dog owners, since they'll only have to overcome the difficulty of convincing the dog that it can't actually eat the hat, whereas cat owners will have to overcome the difficulty of taking a picture with their eyeballs clawed out.

Hey, in other news, we've got another Broken English Musical Challenge this week. This time, we're focusing on that great piece of American heritage, TV Theme Songs. Check it out. I think you'll like it. And we'll see you next week...
