The EA Celebrity Challenge!

Earth to Rade...

Hey, kids! It's time for another EA Celebrity Challenge! This time we're interviewing Rade Stojsavljevic, one of the producers of Earth and Beyond.

Earth and Beyond is a huge online science fiction game where you and thousands of your friends get to explore the galaxy together. Think of it as going on a giant road trip, but with a much nicer car. And more explosions.

Anyway, Rade's been with EA's Westwood Studios in Las Vegas since 1997, when he worked on the Blade Runner computer game. (Although to this day, he's not entirely sure if Deckard is a replicant.) He was also the producer for C&C: Tiberian Sun, which was a big deal among the videogame crowd. He claims to be a good cook, even though we haven't received any Halloween cookies yet (cough, cough), and he's a big scuba diver, which isn't really all that useful when you live in Las Vegas.

Even for a casual interview, Rade insists on dressing to the nines.

In fact, if he's suffered from enough heat stroke, you might have a leg up on this month's celebrity. Let's see how well you do...

Pogo: So, how do you pronounce your name?
Rade: It's pronounced Rade ("Roddy") Stojsavljevic ("Stoy-sav-la-vich")

Pogo: So what is that... Irish?
Rade: (Pause) Uh... no. It's Yugoslavian.

Pogo: Oh, right. Okay, first question: In what comedy did Jim Carrey, Damon Wayans and Jeff Goldblum play space aliens?
Rade: Ummm... that must be Earth Girls are Easy

Pogo: What movie caused movie critic Jeffrey Westhoff to write "It's as if Travolta wanted to destroy his career again just to see if he could stage another comeback."

Pogo: Speaking of the 80's, who was the singer of the 1987 #1 single, "Heaven is a Place on Earth," and what band was she in before embarking on her solo career?
Rade: That's Belinda Carlisle... and she was in the Go-Gos.

Pogo: What children's cartoon had kids Kwame, Wheeler, Linka, Gi and Ma-Ti battling eco-villains with their magical rings?
Rade: Oh, I know this! That has to be...uh... it's that stupid water guy. I can picture the hero... oh, this is gonna bug me all day.

Pogo: Do you want to go back to this question?
Rade: No. No... I'll get it... is it Captain Planet?

Pogo: Which of the following is not a layer of the earth's atmosphere... Mesosphere, Tropophere, Stratosphere, or Lithosphere?

Pogo: What was the name of the comet that inspired all those Heaven's Gate cult members to commit suicide?

Pogo: So you live in Vegas? What's that like?
Rade: Well, once you get away from the strip, it's remarkably normal. Sort of like L.A., but with less trees. When you go down to the Vegas strip, though, it's like a completely different city.

Pogo: Do you gamble much?
Rade: Only when I'm looking to kill time. Then I'll play some blackjack.

Pogo: Okay, so imagine you're playing blackjack. You've got 13, the dealer has a 4 showing. What do you do?
Rade: I'll stand.

Pogo: Can you name any of the cast members on MTV's "The Real World: Las Vegas"?
Rade: Oh... there was... uh... there's that trampy one.

Pogo: You've just described the entire cast. You'll need to be more specific.
Rade: I think her name was Michelle.

Pogo: What do I get when I go to www.earth.com -- A personal home page, an adult site, a shopping site, or a "This Domain for Sale" site?
Rade: Hold on, let me check...

Pogo: No, no fair typing it in.
Rade: Sigh. Okay. Well, since all internet sites eventually lead to porn, I'll guess it's an adult site.

(The Big Nerdy Question!)
Pogo: So you're a science-fiction fan?
Rade: Sure.

Pogo: Okay. I'm going to give you a list of alien races or civilizations. You tell me what book, movie, or videogame they come from. Ready?
